The Manufacturing process of Glasswool is given below,

1. Batch

The main constituents of Glasswool are sand, soda ash, limestone, and recycled glass; which are stored in silos. The process begins with weighing, mixing, and pouring the constituents into a furnace.

2. Melting

The mixed constituents are then melted in an electric gas furnace at a temperature exceeding 1,400°C.

3. Fiberizing

The liquid glass obtained from the furnace is later passed via a feeder to a fiberizing machine, where it is propelled through tiny holes with the help of a centrifugal spinner – creating the fibers. These fibers are sprayed with a binder and shaped into a blanket. 

4. Forming

The blanket of fibers is passed through a curing oven, which is compressed to the desired thickness.

5. Cutting

After obtaining the final thickness the blanket is then cut to the required width. Off-cuts obtained in cutting are recycled eventually to avoid wastage.

6. Packing

Before packing, the mats are rolled with the help of a rolling machine equipped at the end of the line. A stacking machine is provided for the boards.

7. Palletization

As per the necessity, the glass wool can be compressed up to ten times it is the volume for palletization. In total 36 rolls of glass obtained in the process could be packed onto a single pallet. (Soak Pit)

  2. It is sensitive to water, and because of reason, it is only suitable for rooms that are completely waterproof and not humid.
  3. Also because of its sensitivity regarding water tends to settle on contact with water or moisture. So in case, your home is exposed to such conditions, it will need to be replaced from time to time.
  4. Though glass wool is made of recyclable materials, it possesses a negative ecological balance, particularly because its raw materials are non-renewable.
