There are different types of roofing sheets from the traditionally used galvanized and asbestos steel, and nowadays commonly used aluminum zinc-coated sheets.
Types Of Roofing Sheets
Here, commonly used roof sheet types in construction are enlisted below.
Asbestos Cement Sheet
This type of roof manufacturing process used asbestos fiber as a reinforcement material with cement. Asbestos fiber gives rigidity and stiffness to the roof sheet body to maintain its size and shape without breakage.
Aluminum Roof sheet is easy to install and maintain and their anti-corrosive properties give a long lifespan, also give a shiny luster finish. The biggest advantage of using aluminum roof sheets is their high strength and durability.
Polycarbonate Sheet for Roofing
Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic material with a carbonate group in its chemical structure. Also, polycarbonate roof sheets are transparent and light in weight.
Due to its transparency, you can use this roof sheet in areas where you need much more sunlight such as a greenhouse, warehouse, carports, patios, etc. The biggest disadvantage is, it is high in cost which makes its limited usage.
Fiber Reinforced Plastic Sheet
Fiber-reinforced plastic is a composite material means made up of fiber and thermosetting resins, it is also known as the FRP Sheet for roofing. Here fiber acts as a reinforcement material so that it maintains the molded shape and gives better structural rigidity.
These roofing sheets are available in corrugated and flat in shape and also available in different designs and colors. This is an anti-corrosive sheet and is repaired easily with the minimum maintenance cost.
Polyvinyl Chloride Sheet for Roofing
This roofing sheet is a thermoplastic polymer produced by the polymerization of the vinyl chloride monomer. These roofing sheets have properties like weather resistance, light in weight, non-corrosive in nature, and waterproof, these all factors make them more popular among all types of sheets.
Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride Sheet
This roofing sheet is rigid and hard with no flexibility in nature which makes them differ from the polyvinyl carbonate sheet in its functionality.
Plastic Sheet For Roofing
In this roofing sheet, polyethylene, PET, Polypropylene, etc as a plastic sheet. This sheet is light in weight, weatherproof, flexible, and non-corrosive.
But the main disadvantage of these roof sheet types is lifespan is less as compared to aluminum roofing sheets.
Color Coated Sheet
In this roof sheet steel and other alloy, sheets are coated with 55% of aluminum, 43% of Zinc, and 1.5% of silicon and combined with high-quality colors having specific criteria.
Also, this is available in single-color coated and multicolor coated with different color options. This color coating gives a royal look and adds the advantage of non-corrosive property to it.
Galvanized Iron Sheet
Galvanized iron sheets are available in different gauge thicknesses with different sizes. For the treatment of GI, the sheet surface used electro-galvanizing and hot-dip galvanizing.
This type of GI Sheet for anti-corrosive treatment used zinc with an aluminum coating or Zinc coating.
PUF Sheet for Roofing
PUF means Polyurethane Foam sheet. This type of roofing sheet polyurethane foam sheets are sandwiched between the two same material sheets.
PUF Sheets are mostly used for thermal insulation purposes.
Rubber Sheet for Roofing
Rubber Sheet for roofing is mostly used for rehabilitation purposes. In this sheet Ethylene Propylene Diane Monomer Rubber is used and it is placed over the existing surface with the help of taped and glued.
For achieving a single sheet frame, generally, it is a secondary roofing material that is gladded over the existing roof, to give a heat resistance property and waterproofing property.
Bio-Composite Roofing Sheet
This roofing sheet used plant fiber such as jute fiber, banana fiber, coconut coir, sisal fiber, etc. also, Bio – Composite roofs are eco-friendly in nature and give a cultural aesthetic to your house.
That plant fiber worked as reinforcement material and this roof life span is small.
Bitumen Roofing sheets are used in both climate conditions in hot and cold temperature areas.
The biggest disadvantage is it absorbs the heat from direct sunlight than heating up the house.
Bamboo roofing sheets are giving a traditional and historical look to your house. The Corrugated Bamboo roofing sheets are coated with resins and this coating layer also helps to free them from external environments.
